TETRIS FOR ZX SPECTRUM 48K / 128K - VERSION 1.0.0
================================

Choose the files that match your machine:

  48K:  Tetris_ZX_v1.0.0_48K.tap      or Tetris_ZX_v1.0.0_48K.z80
  128K: Tetris_ZX_v1.0.0_128K_AY.tap  or Tetris_ZX_v1.0.0_128K_AY.z80

The .z80 snapshot starts immediately in a compatible emulator such as
Spectaculator. To use a .tap tape image, select a 48K or 128K machine,
attach the matching tape, then use the machine's Tape Loader or enter
LOAD "" and start the tape. The 128K version has AY music and effects;
the 48K version uses the Spectrum beeper.

HOW TO PLAY
-----------
Move and rotate each falling piece to fill complete horizontal rows.
Full rows vanish. Don't let the pile reach the top of the well. Hold
Down to make a piece fall faster. The NEXT window shows the next piece;
Select can hide or show it.

From the original-style title menu, choose 1 PLAYER or 2 PLAYER. In
one-player play, select A-TYPE for an open-ended score challenge or
B-TYPE to clear 25 lines from your chosen starting height.
Choose a starting level (and height for B-TYPE), then begin. Higher
levels make pieces fall faster. In two-player play, both boards are on
one screen. Clear two, three or four rows together to send one, two or four rows to
your opponent. Win a round by clearing 30 lines or forcing your rival
to the top.
The first player to win five rounds wins the match.

CONTROLS
--------
                         Player 1       Player 2
  Left / Right             A / D          J / L
  Down / Up                S / W          K / I
  Rotate / confirm        Q              U
  Reverse rotate / back   E              O
  Start                   R or Enter     P
  Select (NEXT display)   F              M

Use the Sinclair 1 joystick port for Player 1 or Sinclair 2 for Player 2.
A Kempston joystick, when present, also controls Player 1. Move with
the joystick and use fire to rotate or confirm. Start, Select and
reverse rotate remain on the keyboard.

Player 1 Start pauses or resumes the game. SPACE returns to the title.
To reset without a stray pause, hold a player's Start and Select for
three seconds: R+F (or Enter+F) for Player 1, P+M for Player 2.

EXTRA PLAY
----------
For heart mode, hold Down and press Start at the title selection.
In one-player play, Symbol Shift + Z raises the A-TYPE level;
Symbol Shift + X or C adds or removes a B-TYPE line; Symbol Shift + V
finishes the game. These cheat keys do not work in two-player play.

TIPS
----
* Look at NEXT and leave a place for the shape that is coming.
* Build a low, fairly even surface so different shapes have room to fit.
* Avoid covering empty spaces: buried holes take extra clears to reach.
* Leave a clear channel for the long piece to clear four rows together.
  Take smaller clears when the pile gets high; survival comes first.
* In B-TYPE, concentrate on the line target rather than the score.
* In two-player play, watch both boards: an attack may arrive when
  your own pile is already high.

High scores last for the current session. Reloading starts fresh.
